Wes Anderson
for H&M
This H&M Christmas spot is a beautiful hommage to all Wes Anderson movies ever. The first sequence stars Adrien Brody and personally reminds me a lot of "Darjeeling Limited" when he travels with his two brothers – Owen Wilson and Jason Schwartman – through India. At the time Wes Anderson collaborated with Louis Vuitton. The luggage with initials, palms and animals print appeared in the movie and became a desirable collector‘s item for film enthusiasts all over the world. Uniforms also played a big role in "The Grand Budapest Hotel".
You can find also product placement in other Wes Anderson movies e.g. Billy Murray wears Adidas sneakers in "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou", Jason Schwartzman is obsessed with Prada leather goods in the spot "Castello Cavalcanti" and Margot wears Gucci outfits in "The Royal Tenenbaums".
Furthermore Wes Anderson created a short film for Prada‘s Candy L‘Eau fragrance and the beautiful Luce Bar for the Fondazione Prada in Milan.
It is impressive how Wes Anderson is embedding all brands to his perfectly styled world. His personal touch is unmistakable and finds its expression in camera work and the attention to detail in all outfits and equipement. The brands have a secondary matter and serve as decoration for his stories. The product placement is very subtle and doesn‘t disturb the Wes Anderson universe at all. The brand Wes Anderson prevails in his works – the cooperation partners are forced into the background.
